In partnership with International Medical Corps (IMC) and with support from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs – France, the International Council for Voluntary Agencies (ICVA) is organising a two-day regional symposium aimed at strengthening the capacity of NGO personnel to address the long-term impact of climate change on affected populations in East and Horn of Africa.
The Symposium will bring together 25 NGO participants from local and national NGOs from the region (Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia) to:
enhance understanding of climate risks and threats that are impacting communities in the region,
share lessons learned and best practice on how NGOs are addressing threats and humanitarian needs caused by climate change,
identify challenges and opportunities to further strengthen capacities of local/national NGOs to sustainably respond to climate emergencies,
enhance awareness on the latest regional and global policy discussions around climate change and environment sustainability and its relevance to humanitarian action for NGOs in the region.
During the workshop, presentations by thematic experts, interactive activities, and group dialogues will be used to enhance the participants’ knowledge. topics such as climate policy, climate and human mobility, and climate and food security will be covered.
