Virtual Workshop Yemeni NGOs 15-17 February 2026
⚠️ In a rapidly evolving humanitarian context in #Yemen, where the 2026 response plan aims to reach 22 million people with essential aid amid shrinking resources, the need for a strong and effective collective voice of the country’s civil society is more urgent than ever.
Over the course of three days from 15-17 February, 💡 Yemeni NGOs came together in an interactive virtual workshop designed to expand hands-on skills enabling them to lead within the “triple” nexus, influence policy, enhance accountability, access decision-making spaces, and ensure that community priorities shape humanitarian and development relief efforts – 🛠 being empowered and equipped with the tools to translate real operational constraints into concrete objectives, strategies, and plans.
The ICVA Network Middle East and North Africa (MENA) team is proud to collaborate 🤝 with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Yemen and the national NGO network to reinforce local organisations’ leadership in targeted and meaningful advocacy, coalition-building in complex political environments, stakeholder mapping, and capacity for core donor engagement.
🔊 As United Nations RC/HC in Yemen Julien Harneis highlighted, community-grounded NGOs provide irreplaceable insights, while also being more resilient, legitimate, and better positioned to constructively challenge donors – stressing that financial diversification, as well as active relationships and direct interaction, are crucial for sustainability. IRC Country Director Caroline Sekyewa emphasised that advocacy is no longer optional, in addition to Mara Bernasconi from the Regional Advocacy Group MENA underscoring the importance of dialogue, coordination, and aligned positions for success. Finally, Ali Daoudi – Chair of the Advocacy Working Group – stressed that a unified stance reduces risk, increases leverage and impact, and elevates negotiating power.
