Statement by the Lebanon Humanitarian INGO Forum on Violence Escalation
‼️ “Urgent diplomatic action is required to de-escalate the situation, protect civilians, and prevent further displacement and destruction.”
Renewed escalation of violence in📍#Lebanon, just as recovery from the last wave had begun, is triggering a major large-scale humanitarian emergency forcing hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes – for many this is not the first time being uprooted – and leaving vulnerable families at breaking point, with fragile and overwhelmed local systems, services, and infrastructure that, stretched by years of compounded crises, are struggling to cope.
Civilians are once more paying the highest price, with severe consequences being felt across the entire country. Shelters are filling rapidly, host communities are under immense pressure, and needs continue to rise at a dramatic rate. Aid organisations are promptly mobilising to respond wherever access allows but, without immediate international support and decisive measures, “assistance alone cannot keep pace with the scale and speed of suffering” caused by ongoing hostilities.
The Lebanon Humanitarian INGO Forum (LHIF) in calling for the safeguarding of civilians, the strict enforcement of international humanitarian law and prevention of violations, the acceleration of critical efforts to ensure life-saving relief can reach those at greatest risk who depend on it most, the release of flexible and sustained funding for frontline actors, as well as a commitment to reinforce the resilience of the Lebanese population.
