Centering Communities and Leadership in PSEAH: Insights from Nimo Hassan

Published on May 5, 2026

In a recent interview, Nimo Hassan highlights the critical importance of Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH) as a cornerstone of principled humanitarian action.

Drawing on her roles as Director of the Somali NGO Consortium, as well as ICVA Board Chair and PSEAH Champion, she underscores that effective protection frameworks must be rooted in and driven by the communities they serve – ensuring accountability, trust, and relevance on the ground.

Hassan also reflects on the pivotal role of leadership in shaping organisational culture, emphasising that setting a clear tone from the top is essential to advancing safeguarding efforts and fostering environments where prevention and response are taken seriously.

Her insights reinforce that sustainable progress in PSEAH depends not only on systems and policies, but on collective ownership and committed leadership at all levels.
